START THE SEARCH

Lead Time: start nine months to a year out.  It takes three to four months for the manufacture to make and ship a dress.  You will need four to six weeks for alterations.  The sooner you get started the more choices you will have.

Establish the Basics:

• Decide how formal your wedding will be.  Where will you hold the ceremony?  What time of day?  Answering these questions will give you a starting point for what type of dress will be appropriate.
• Set a budget.  You do not want to fall in love with a gown then find out it is $3000 when your budget is under $1000.
• Call ahead and find out which stores carry plus size samples.  All of SILVER LINING’s over 125 sample gowns are in a range of sizes from 18 to 32.
• Be open-minded.  Be willing to try on several different looks.  You will be surprised at how many different styles will look great on you.
• For the initial scouting trip, take one person with you.  Everyone will have an opinion.  Keep it simple.  You are the one who needs to make the final decision.
• Forget the size number.  Wedding gowns run notoriously small.  Buy the size you are not the size you hope to be.
• After you have ordered your wedding gown, stop looking at dresses.  Continued looking will cause you to question your decision and only add stress.  Celebrate and move on to the next phase of your planning.
